
Britta Curl-Salemme scored with 16 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, then tallied the winner 16:24 into the extra session as the Minnesota Frost edged the host Ottawa Charge 2-1 on Thursday to even the PWHL finals at one win apiece.
Ottawa’s Jocelyne Larocque opened the scoring at 17:25 of the third period, but the Charge couldn’t hold on.
The best-of-five series heads to Saint Paul, Minn., for Game 3 on Saturday and Game 4 on Monday.
In the closing stages of regulation, Minnesota pulled goalie Maddie Rooney, then got a power play when Ottawa’s Tereza Vanisova was penalized for tripping at 19:23.
Off an offensive-zone faceoff, the Frost’s Claire Thompson fired a shot from the right point, and Britta Curl-Salemme knocked in the rebound.
In overtime, Minnesota’s Mellissa Channell-Watkins carried the puck into the offensive zone and took a shot that was blocked well short of the net. Curl-Salemme collected the puck between the circles and delivered a shot that got through Charge goalie Gwyneth Philips.
Rooney finished with 37 saves, while Philips stopped 22 shots.
The Charge won the series opener 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday.
