Re: “If Israel-Hezbollah war escalates, I fear antisemitism will, too” [July 13, Opinion]:
Paul Burstein wrote a long, impassioned essay on his fears of antisemitism if Israel’s war with Hezbollah expands. Antisemitism is wrong and should indeed be condemned.
But it would have been nice if he had mentioned just one single empathetic word for the nearly 40,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, who have been killed since Oct. 7. Some protesters hurled antisemitic tropes but the many who did not were joined by Jews sympathetic to the plight of innocent women and children dying.
As a professor and role model, it would be nice if Burstein was like some of the Jewish students who want the killing to stop.
